Travel Itinerary: 24 Hours in Florence
I've already written about how much of a travesty it is to have just a short amount of time in a place that has so much history, and so much to explore. However, recently I returned and we definitely fit as much as we could into 24 hours.
I thought it might be useful to share what we did in those 24 hours for some inspiration for your next trip!
Our itinerary:
Arrival:
Our plane landed around midday, and we made our way from Pisa airport to Florence. We used Pisa-mover and bought tickets for both the shuttle and the train from the ticket office at the airport. This was £29.36 for two people.
We dropped our case at the hotel (CodeRooms— see my full review here) and were in desperate need of food, so we thought we'd have a look for the famous windows!
Lunch:
We headed straight to Babae, one of the first restaurants to have a working wine window. After getting our wine (Aperol) from the wine window, we went inside for lunch, and refuelled for the afternoon.
A chilled afternoon:
We had a long day of travel, so decided to take it easy and walk around Palazzo Vecchio and as there were far too many people around the last time we went to fully appreciate all of the fantastic statues, or the fountain.
If you haven't already been, another option could be to go see the church of Santa Croce which I've written about here.
Dinner:
After a quick shower, it was time for dinner. We had booked a table for Osteria Cinghiale Bianco for 6.30, but got their early so went and had a little pre-meal Prosecco at The Friends Pub Firenze. The staff were super friendly and it was a really chilled environment. I’ve written a full review of the restaurant here!
The next day:
After breakfast at Antico Forno Ghibellina (coffee and pastries), it was time to pick up our tickets to The Uffizi! I’ve gone into the ticket situation in this post, but after a little hurdle we were finally in and spent the morning walking around the galleries in complete awe!
We also had tickets to the Academia to see the Statue of David and so went right there after we’d had our fill of gorgeous Uffizi worthy art and architecture.
Lunch:
At around 2-3 pm we finally decided to have lunch. I'd seen events from the biblioteca delle oblate online and the view looked stunning so we decided that this would be a great place for lunch, and we weren't disappointed!
After lunch it was time to head back to the hotel, pick up the bags and head to Lucca… (i’ve linked the full itinerary for Lucca here).
If I had more time here are the three things I would love to :
Go to the central market, this is a foodie paradise and I'd love to see it!
Cappelle Medicee, it just looks so beautiful and we all know that as a family they were super extra, so this would be a super fascinating place to visit!
The Duomo! I can't actually believe that after three visits I still haven't been into the Duomo, but it's definitely on my list.
